What is a Battery

A battery is an electrical devicce which consists of
a number of cells connected together in either series or parallel with a given voltage or capacity. The more the number of cells, the higher the voltage(series) or capacity(parallel).

Also, the larger(in terms of area) the battery plates, the the higher the capacity. Batteries are usually made in 12V blocks with 6 cells purely for convenience. Batteries can also be found in 6, 4 or 2 volts. Batteries are connected in series to achieve whatever voltage required(adding the voltage of individual batteries in the serial connection) and in parallel to achieve whatever capacity required(add the capacities of the individual batteries in the parrallel arrangement. By this strings of parallel banks is achieved). F
or larger systems, a number of series connected batteries can be connected to form parallel strings. By this arrangement, an equivalent battery bank with higher voltage and capacity is obtained.
